TIPS FOR THE BEST WEDDING PORTRAITS
Most of my clients will tell me ‘we’re not great in front of the camera’, and yet we always manage to get great photos everyone loves!
The best advice I can offer to ensure the best, timeless and most natural wedding portraits include:
THINK OF LIGHT
I love my soft dreamy light but I also love beautiful dramatic contrast. Believe it or not, both can be achieved with golden hour. As the sun sets, there are beautiful ways to use the direction of light to achieve romantic soft light but also to cast shadows and create a bit of contrast.
BE PRESENT, BE PLAYFUL
Enjoy each other’s company and being together. Often this part of the day may be your first moments alone. As a photographer, one of my tasks is draw out more of who you are and capture the magic - so you’ll find me asking questions to jog some of your best memories together, and giving you little prompts to think about as you look into each other’s eyes.
With your bridal party I create games and we can pop champagne to really amplify the fun and celebrations. I want to see your best dance moves as a squad. Big open laughs and swapping stories from the morning. Confetti canons? Yes please!
ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS
This is a great way to get comfortable before the big day. An opportunity for us to hang out as a trio and have a little adventure. You’ll get an idea of the prompts I give and the natural way we move through the session to get candid, gorgeous photos. This is a great opportunity to get photos at one of your favourite locations - waterfalls, the mountains, you name it - I’m up for it! I love these sessions as often we’re able to do things you may not be able to do on your wedding day - plus capturing the joy and anticipation before the big day is so special. This is also a great time to chat about the wedding. I generally do engagement sessions 2-3 months before the wedding day.
MY ROLE
To make you as comfortable as possible so you can play and relax the way you would when everything just falls into place. My love for photography and humans means that I am always after creating couple photos that are true to your personalities and unique relationship. It keeps my job as a photographer interesting and each session special and memorable for everyone involved.
I hope this helps, get in touch if you’d like to discuss a couple shoot or wedding photography with Breathing Light. I’d love to meet you!
